A silly dream, visit to blue tokai, & an unexpected twist

Who knew a funny dream would lead us to Blue Tokai, on a random Sunday afternoon in Kolkata? Our friend dreamed of a perfect cup of coffee and set out to make it a reality. But did the coffee turn out as she imagined? Let’s find out!

When you're in your late 20s, time isn't something you just have.

It's something you have to sketch and plan out. Meeting friends isn't as simple or spontaneous like it used to be, it takes effort, scheduling, and a bit of luck to align with everyone's calendars.

But this visit was impromptu! Here's how we made the plan:

It was Saturday! The three of us—Sarmila, Manisa, and I—were on a group call, catching up.

That’s when Sarmila suddenly said, “I really loved your blog on dreams that leave us sad and confused,” and before we knew it, she was deep into sharing her own dream.

She had dreamt about some of her friends, there were random stories, but the one thing that stood out the most from her dream was about a "Crunchy Coffee"!?

Yes, she had this coffee in her dream, and then she said, “Oh god, I want that coffee! We need to go find it.”

And there she was, searching everywhere, trying to figure out where to find that coffee. She kept sending us screenshots of menus, hoping to spot the one that matched her dream.

After a while, her text popped up:

"Guys! I found it! I found the coffee of my dreams."

It was on the menu at Blue Tokai, as she found it out online:

"Cold Brew with Milk: For those who enjoy a balanced blend of cold coffee and cold brew, this delicious latte-style cold brew features notes of creamy milk chocolate, nuts, and caramel."

And there it was—the perfect sign to go and have that coffee. After all, our friend had a dream, and not making it come true? Well, that just wasn’t an option :)

We planned to meet at Blue Tokai, around 3pm.

This Blue Tokai's outlet was a special visit, because of its aesthetic charm and beautiful outdoor seating, surrounding by greenery.

You know, how you want to sit peacefully, talk to friends, click aesthetic photos, yes, this outlet fulfills everything.

And, why won't it? This outlet is situated in the campus of BioWonder buiding in Kolkata - it is known for its sustainable projects.

As we stepped into Biowonder, there was no security guard in sight. But the moment he appeared, he started yelling at us for entering.

  • First, we had no clue about the building’s rules.

  • Second, we had waited for a few seconds before stepping in.

  • Third, we were walking in slowly, just trying to find the café’s entrance.

Yet, out of nowhere, he started shouting, asking why we couldn't wait, throwing all sorts of rude comments. Frustration built inside me, but I kept my cool and asked if he needed to make any entry for the guests.

His response? A flat "No"—and then he just waved us off. So why the hell did he create such a scene in the first place? Absolutely disrespectful behavior from a security guard of a place like 'Biowonder'.

Finally, we entered the café. It was around 3:30pm, and the staff greeted us with warm smiles and cheerful voices.

Circular ceiling light with multiple bulbs radiating bright beams, set against a plain background. Modern, minimalist design.
Indoor space with large windows and greenery. Rattan lamps hang from the ceiling. A "Washroom" sign is visible. Calm, natural ambiance.

We intentionally decided to sit in the center, right under the round aesthetic light (we chose to sit indoors at first).

I mean, capturing the essence of the indoor ambiance was just as essential

as outdoors.

We all love clicking photos, so here we are, ceasing the moment.

The ambiance was pretty lit, adding all the essence of nature, artificial lights, and stories in it.

This outlet felt like a beautiful getaway from the regular cafés to a more peaceful and a hangout place.

It felt like a place, where you meet someone dearly, after a long time, or with someone you wish to talk without external noises.

This café is beautiful, and you should visit once in your life (but, please visit during the afternoon spring time).

Have you visited Blue Tokai before? (Let me know in the comments)

Now, the moment of truth! We finally placed our orders

Cold Brew with Milk (Sarmila's dream)

Glass of iced coffee on a blue saucer with a silver spoon on a wooden table. Shadows create a relaxing mood.

Affogato (I lovee this)

Glass with two scoops of ice cream and a spoon in coffee, on a blue plate. Wooden table background, creating a relaxed mood.

Cappuccino (Manisha's go-to coffee)

Blue cup with heart-shaped latte art on a matching saucer. Warm lighting creates a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Background is blurred.

Which one of the three looks the yummiest?

  • 0%Affogato

  • 0%Cappuccino

Moment of truth?

You can tell just by looking at the coffee that her dream coffee didn’t live up to her expectations.

However, affogato tasted good, and cappuccino was the best!

Meta AI helped me imagine the coffee that Sarmila's dream sounded like, it was something like this:

Cozy setting with a cup of Crunchy Coffee topped with nuts and caramel, surrounded by crumbs. Text: "Crunchy Coffee". Warm lighting - Imagined by Meta AI

I know! They look very different, but if you know something that looks like the imagined coffee, comment below!

Glass of iced coffee on a blue saucer with a spoon, set on a wooden table. Creamy brown color, with ice cubes floating on top.

The coffee we ordered in Blue Tokai was more of an iced latte where all the nuts and cream were mixed.

But still, it didn’t taste good. It was more like water than coffee nuts, though the staff claimed it was made using the nuts.

So, as you can see, our motive wasn't fulfilled with this visit. But Sarmila's dream made us have a plan on a Sunday afternoon, and have some good time together.

We also ordered a 'Chimichurri Herb Chicken Croissant' and a 'Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant.' Both were absolutely delicious—one bite, and it felt like a taste of heaven!

Croissant sandwich and chips on a plate with iced coffee, inside a cozy cafe. Large window view of greenery outside, warm, relaxed ambiance.

We were so indulged into it, that for a moment we forgot to click pictures, have conversation, or even the bad taste of cold brew with milk.

Cafe interior with people sitting at a table and a staff member behind the counter. Large windows show a green outdoor scene.

It was almost evening, and as I looked outside, the sun was setting, and the ambiance, it was peaceful.

It was the perfect golden hour for some sun-kissed photos :)

Without a second thought, we asked them to move our table outside.

The natural ambiance, with the warm glow of the sunset and the gentle evening breeze, was everything we could have asked for - it was just perfect.

We planned to visit the café during late sunday afternoon, in spring because it felt like a peaceful time and a perfect moment also showed up to click some great pictures (I mean sunset brings all the aesthetic lights you need in your pictures).

From left- Sarmila, Manisa, & Me!

As we sat there, having the last sips of our coffees, it hit us - this little café visit wasn't really bout finding the perfect "crunchy coffee".

It was about the laughter (we did laugh a lot), the stories, and the way one's dream turned into a spontaneous plan!!

Sure, the cold brew wasn't like how Sarmila imagined (not at all), but does it really matter? The real takeaway was the memory that we created.

Open-faced sandwich with arugula and scrambled eggs on a blue plate beside iced coffee in sunlight; dark green handbag nearby.

Sometimes plans don't go the way we expect (most of the time for me). But if they bring joy, good food, aesthetic pictures, and a little bit of adventure, that's a win in my book!

So, if you ever find yourself chasing a dream (or a cup of coffee😉), I say go for it. Even if it doesn't turn out perfect, the experience might just surprise you.

Have you ever chased a dream, like Sarmila did? Literal or Figurative?

The Affogato does look the best of them all. And Meta AI might want to ease up on the nuts a bit. 😂😂😂😂😂
